The
Historic Windsor Hotel welcomed the New Year with a big celebration on
December 31, 2005, attended by 110 people. Rooms and New Year’s Eve
Packages were sold out a month in advance of the event, and people from
all over Georgia came to celebrate 2006 at the Windsor.
The crowd gathered people from several
cities, among which were Atlanta, Smyrna, Griffin, Norcross, Cumming,
Valdosta, Hawkinsville, Canton, Cuthbert, West Point, Gainesville, Albany,
Leesburg, Cape Coral FL, Mauldin SC … and, of course, locals from
Americus.
In addition, this New Year’s Eve two illustrious guests graced the Windsor
halls: President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn. The couple brought
their family to the Windsor and had a small reception in the Ladies Tea
Parlor. The Carters had 26 people in their group, including their children
and grandchildren. The former president and his family were greeted by the
owner of the Windsor, Sharad Patel and his wife Ila, and by the general
manager Paul Riley and his wife Sue, who were all very honored to have the
Carters at the Windsor. The Carters had a good time dancing to the DJ in
the beautiful Victorian atrium lobby.
The event started at 7pm with a New Year’s Eve buffet dinner, which
included appetizers such as Crab Cakes, Stuffed Mushrooms, squash soup,
and dishes such as Steak Diane, Stuffed Pork Tenderloin, Pecan Encrusted
Salmon, Bourbon Marinated Salmon, as well as delicious desserts:
New York Style Cheese Cake, “Death by Chocolate” Cake,
Crème Brule and Boston Cream pie. At 8pm the DJ started to play music from
the 1950’s until todays. The happy and energetic crowd gathered people
from all ages, which danced from 8:00pm until 2:00am, to the sound of
various popular hits.
At midnight the countdown started and the crowd cheered
when the New Year arrived. The New Year’s Eve celebration at the Windsor
was definitely a big success, and the presence of Jimmy Carter and his
family was a great honor to the Windsor and those attending.
Every year the Windsor welcomes the New Year with
a big dance party and dinner. New Years Eve at the Windsor draws people
from many different states, wanting to experience the elegance of the 1982
Victorian Hotel and the delicious Southern cuisine. Guests also enjoy
dancing to the DJ all night long in the Windsor magnificent three-tier
atrium lobby. |
