Windsor Hotel
Experience Victorian Ambiance in Downtown Americus, Georgia
Located in the heart of downtown Americus, Georgia, The Windsor Hotel is a five-story Victorian landmark that has stood as a symbol of elegance since its construction in 1892. Architecturally stunning, the hotel features a signature tower, ornate balconies, and a dramatic three-story open atrium lobby that once served as the centerpiece for grand balls, celebrations, and social gatherings. Occupying nearly an entire city block, The Windsor quickly became one of the region’s most celebrated destinations and has welcomed notable guests throughout its history, including President Theodore Roosevelt.
After nearly 80 years of operation, the hotel closed in 1972 before undergoing extensive restorations in 1991, 2010, and most recently 2019, carefully preserving its historic character while introducing modern comforts. Today, guests enjoy updated amenities including luxury bedding, flat-screen televisions, granite bathroom countertops, in-room micro/fridges, in-room coffee (featuring local coffee), a business center, and contemporary conveniences designed for today’s traveler.
The Windsor features 53 luxurious guest rooms, including six suites and two iconic Tower Suites: the Bridal Suite and the Carter Presidential Suite, named in honor of the 39th President of the United States and previous local resident Jimmy Carter. President and Mrs. Carter stayed in the Presidential Suite in 2002 and remained longtime supporters of the hotel.
The Windsor Hotel has been nationally recognized and featured on NBC’s The Today Show, Georgia Public Broadcasting, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, USA Today, Southern Distinction, and Southern Living. The property is the proud recipient of Georgia’s Department of Tourism Excellence in Customer Service Award and a National Preservation Award, and sits within Americus’ historic downtown district listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
